Other Voices
Been an odd year this, didn’t expect a great deal to be happening around these parts to be honest. Though its been a bit busier than expected! Probably more so than had Doves been in the studio recording! Jimi has been kept busy in the public eye mainly thanks to 6 Music and the Bird Effect project. To think they almost shut down 6 Music too! Jimi said he hopes to put something out next Spring, seems rather soon! So we wont keep him to that, but definitely looking forward to hearing what he’s been up to besides the Bird Effect theme which is stunning btw! Hope we can purchase that on a CD or vinyl someday soon!
Jimi has another live performance lined up, this time in Dingle Ireland early December as part of the Other Voices Festival. Good luck getting a ticket, they are not easy to get! If you want to try then check out the Other Voices website for info on the various competitions! I’ve been told Jimi will some tracks himself then also some with Simon Aldred of Cherry Ghost. They usually broadcast the Other Voices performances on RTE in Ireland, which inevitably ends up on youtube so will keep an eye on that!
Finally, if you are based in the US then have a great turkey day on Thursday. Eat lots and drink even more!
Lost Sides Guitar Tabs
With thanks to Nick Yates (aka Substance) we have added Lost Sides to the tablature section of the blog. Nick has been working his way through Doves catalogue, we previously brought you all the studio albums and the Places Between. Next up will be tracks from the Places Between second disc not yet covered.
The tabs are designed so that you can strum along to Doves tracks. The tabs may not reflect exactly how Doves play the songs as some of the recordings are detuned and they are designed so that you don’t have to be Jez or play a right-handed guitar upside down to enjoy them!
We invite you to submit any corrections where necessary.

Jimi’s tour of 6 Music continues.. this time on Saturday past Jimi spoke to 6 Music’s Liz Kershaw. Jimi’s bit starts around 2 hours 5 minutes in which starts with a airing of the theme for the Bird Effect.

Ghosts Night Out Videos

Sounds like Ghosts Night Out was a great success. Of course the Ensemble also performed the Bird Effect theme in full, probably a bit too much to expect anyone recorded all 12 minutes of that on their camera!! Doves.net has a couple shots up here.
For those who got in early enough were treated to a performance by Phil Daniels! Thanks to Mila for the info, who took her 14 year old son along to the performance, which ties in with something he is doing for his arts award and music scheme. Good luck with that!
Looking forward to hearing more bird music and of course more from Jimi’s solo record which sounds promising at this early stage.
Cherry Ghost
Looking on You Tube, its hard to believe Birdy’s cover of Cherry Ghost’s People Help The People has had almost had over a million views if you combine the two videos she has up. More than three times the views the Cherry Ghost original version has! crazy stuff.
Cherry Ghost have got a trio of acoustic shows lined up for December, the first Manchester date is sold out. So you probably shouldn’t hang around getting tix for the other shows in Manchester & London.
Again, if you get the chance on Thursday head to Shoreditch to see Jimi and the Bird Effect Ensemble perform the Bird Effect theme in full. Tix are 6 quid in advance or 8 on the night at Rich Mix. Support comes from blog favourites and fellow Heavenly Records signed Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, who will also be supporting Cherry Ghost in December!
Jimi on 6 Music this Sunday
You know the drill by now.. Jimi is sitting in for Guy on 6 Music Sunday night from 10. Listen online on the night, or on demand whenever you get a spare couple hours! Playlist is already up on the show website, some interesting selections as always!

Breath taking! Earlier this evening Jimi and his Bird Effect Ensemble performed the Bird Effect title track in full live on 6 Music’s Marc Riley show. It is a beautiful mesmerizing piece of music, that should be listened to in full. If you have a chance to attend the performance in London next Thursday you should jump at it! Well impressed, Jimi probably should be expecting a call from the National Geographic channel here soon..

The Panic Tree
Of course I take a few days off and I miss a cracker… Jimi was a guest on Jo Wiley’s Radio 2 show last Wednesday which was co-hosted by Guy Garvey.
Jimi was live in session with a couple musicians backing him up on keys & harp. Noticed the band included Jake Evans… of Bad Lieutenant fame I wonder? They started off with a stunning version of Break Me Gently not heard live since 2000 I believe?
Later on the show Jimi mentioned that he and guy had spent a weekend together working and this was one of the results was a track called The Panic Tree, for which they took a sample from an old gospel tune. The Panic Tree is a lovely folky Josh Ritter like track, well worth listening to..

Don’t forget tomorrow Jimi & Guy are co-hosting 6 Music’s Radcliffe & Maconie from 1pm through til 4pm. Then from 8pm Jimi will be presenting the The Bird Effect Ensemble live in session on the Marc Riley show.
Ghosts Night Out
Jimi will be performing his ‘Ghosts of Gone Birds‘ theme with the help of a 15 strong Bird Effect Ensemble at the ‘Ghosts Night Out ‘ launch at Rich Mix Bar on November 10th. Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou will also be performing plus poetry form Will Burns (Sideshow) and an appearance by artist/bird shaman Marcus Coates. Fundraising tickets now on sale adv £6 from the Rich Mix website.
There is more.. this coming Sunday Jimi is sitting in for Guy Garvey on Guy’s 6 Music show. The show goes out from 10pm til midnight.
