New Review Of Glasgow ABC Show At NME.com

NME.com have today posted a live review of Doves’ recent show at Glasgow’s ABC on March 15th.

NME.com

They open with ‘Jetstream’, the curtain-raiser from new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ and a lush, melodic wave of eerie krautrock that’s audibly inspired by Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack. Yet it’s not until the grand arabesque strings of ‘Snowden’ gallop into life that we realise just how we’ve missed them.

It’s four years since Doves’ last album and the sold-out ABC was full of anticipation. New songs went down well, especially powerful opener Jetstreamand anthemic The Greatest Denier.

Winter Hill wasn’t as well received as I expected but Kingdom Of Rust sounded even better live thanks to Andy Williams’ drumming.

There’s an easy chemistry between the trio as they swap vocal duties and instruments and they have honed their craft, making it look effortless.

There could be no other ending than euphoric anthem There Goes The Fear

LONDON FORUM

Doves finished up the warm up tour tonight in London at the HMV Forum. doves board regular Jagger was twitting the set list for his Last Broadcast website. The last Broadcast site was first launched back in 2002. The site has been relaunched just in time for another busy year ahead for doves band. Visit The Last Broadcast for the London setlist as it happened. You can also submit your review/photos/videos and anything else you have to add about the show at the site.

With the band now back into the grove playing live. Thoughts will now turn to promoting Kingdom Of Rust, as the release date draws near. Live sessions are scheduled for several BBC radio shows towards the end of next week. I will post more on those over the coming days.

The Kingdom Of Rust single is now available for pre-order. The best deal I have found so far is at Record Store. Both formats for £3.50.
