Radio Nowhere!

Despite no airplay in the US, ‘the Boss’ Bruce Springsteen gave a good shout out to Cherry Ghost this week. Goes to show good music does get noticed.   Cherry Ghost have a new single out too, check it out for a very cool cover of the 90s classic Finally.

Will soon be launching our Doves guitar tab section, starting off with all of the Best Of album. More on that very soon!

Doves – Jetstream (Redanka Booty) by Redanka

Launch Magazine

Here is one for the train spotters! I’m currently re-doing the site discography, just got to the ‘Doves also appears on’ section…

You may recall the now defunct music mag Launch from the late 90s/early naughties. They would send CD-Roms to subscribers.. one of which, issue number 53 features Doves. The CD-Rom includes a video of Doves performing an acoustic version of N.Y. (see video below) as well as interviews with all the band and a bonus audio track N.Y. (live).

Anyhow, point is if anyone has this CD-Rom please do get in touch as I’m looking for a copy of the cover, and any other relevant information about the release.

Thank you to Dave Weiss for reminding me of this release a wee while back.

Also check out the Launch interview below. I’m guessing this was recorded during Doves first North American tour.

So far we have received £750 in donations at the Teenage Cancer Trust website. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We will continue to push the album until we have reached the second target of £1000. Also a big thank you to all of you who have helped promote the album at your various websites, blogs etc.

Another BIG thank you to all the artists for your efforts in putting together the music.

Just to answer a couple questions. The Teenage Cancer Trust will continue to accept donations until January 1st 2012. I wont be taking the website down. We may do something again in 2012 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

A few stats for you.. the website has received just over 21,000 hits from release day October 18th. The album in MP3 form has been downloaded 3813 times.

Over at Soundcloud, we have had 2017 plays with 1012 wav downloads.

Thank You!

The Future

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has downloaded Echoes in the Alleyway: a Tribute to Doves and more importantly donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust. So far we have raised £679.49! We hit the initial target of £500, hopefully we will hit £1000 over time. The album will be online for another year, accepting donations until January 2012.

If you haven’t got the album yet, check it out. I will be posting some album stats over at the site later today.

Besides a few overseas gigs next year, there probably wont be much Doves news. To keep the blog ticking over, expect archive type stuff and I will be posting news on other bands such as Cherry Ghost, I AM Kloot and the likes. Of course I will keep you bang up to date with all the solo projects stuff as news trickles in.

Next blog project on is a tabs section to be added to the site. This will coincide with the new look discography/lyrics section. More on that soon!

Kendal Calling Videos

A proshot video taken from the official Kendal Calling youtube. Also featured is Spaceface.

Also heard that Filtered Music will apparently be uploading video of Doves Glasgow Oran Mor performance. More as I have it!

A wee piece on Echoes in the Alleyway in today’s Guardian.

It’s always nice when something actually comes of an idea fuelled by drunken optimism in a late-night bar. That was the genesis of a new tribute album to brooding Mancuncian rockers Doves, released online this week. Some fans of the band had the idea following a Doves show in April, and soon found that other Doves lovers from around the world wanted to take part. The result is the very listenable 25-track album Echoes in the Alleyway. Given that it has been made by fans, it’s not surprising that several of the songs sound like the work of Doves tribute acts (albeit very proficient ones). As ever with covers, though, the best are those that bring something different to the track, particularly a newly twanging M62 Song by North Carolina’s Honored Guests and a gorgeous piano/female vocals take on Melody Calls by 18-year-old Brazilian Alambradas. Download the album from echoesinthealleyway.com in return for a voluntary donation to Teenage Cancer Trust.
