Mesmerizing!

The Bird Effect Ensemble pre show – Photo from the Marc Riley facebook

Breath taking! Earlier this evening Jimi and his Bird Effect Ensemble performed the Bird Effect title track in full live on 6 Music’s Marc Riley show. It is a beautiful mesmerizing piece of music, that should be listened to in full. If you have a chance to attend the performance in London next Thursday you should jump at it! Well impressed, Jimi probably should be expecting a call from the National Geographic channel here soon..

Listen to the track in full at the BBC iPlayer here. For Jimi’s section jump to 34 minutes in!

Jimi also briefly talked about the ‘solo’ record, mentioning he hoped it would see light of day next Spring! Exciting times ahead..

Earlier in the day Jimi co-hosted the Radcliffe and Maconie show with Guy Garvey. Haven’t had a chance to listen to it myself yet. You can replay the show on demand using the iPlayer here.

You gotta ask.. how long is it before Jimi gets his own 6 music show?!

Glad to see the new Doves forum is going down well, probably hasn’t been as busy in years.

Anyone heading out to the Ghosts of Gone Birds exhibition in Liverpool on Friday? If you are going and would like to send in some photos or a write-up, please get in touch!

From the archive, been asked if Doves have done much acoustic. They have, usually radio sessions. The last gig in Glasgow they did last year was acoustic, sadly no audio has surfaced of that yet! You can listen to their two performances at Seattle’s KEXP..

2002 & 2005

There is also a ton of stuff up the Dutch Radio station 3voor12 here.

Finally,   I recently got to see Godspeed You! Black Emperor live. Supporting them was a Canadian guy called Eric Chenaux. With his latest album, all the song titles come from the names of real English ales! He was fantastic, check out his tunes at myspace.

Manchester Apollo 2002

Peter Kay introducing Doves December 2002

Big thanks to tarquinlive again, this time they have uploaded a pretty good recording of the second Manchester Apollo gig of 2002. The better of the two imo, complete with the hilarious Peter Kay intro.

Get the flac recording here.

Obviously not too much going on Doves. But if you do enjoy a bit of Kraftwerk/OMD then check out my favourite band at the moment Mirrors who are on Skint records. Their debut album Lights and Offerings is superb.

We recently caught OMD on tour, their first tour of North America since 1988. Well worth seeing if you didn’t see them first time around. We saw the Architecture & Morality shows in 2007, but they have stepped it up since then especially with some great new tracks from the new lp. Our friend Lori is doing a blog of the tour ‘Across Every Ocean’, which you can read here.

Ok to bring it back to Doves… I recall Q back in 2002 compared The Last Broadcast to OMD’s Organisation, particularly the last track Stanlow. Anyone got that article they could scan? Wouldn’t mind seeing it again.

US TV: Doves on Ovation

Doves are advertised to appear on a episode of Later…with Jools Holland this Friday morning on the Ovation channel here in the States. The episode is due to air at 4am EST.

Make the most of it! We get so little Doves on tv here. Many thanks to Christina for the heads up!
