A very cool shot of Jimi performing live at the guardian HQ.
In other news, Odludek proudly sits at #22 on the midweek charts. A very good effort so far I think, considering most folk will have no clue who Jimi Goodwin is. Of course the Doves connection will help, but its a great start. Hopefully the sales remain strong for the rest of the week.
Jimi played a session for Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 last night, listen to the full session here. He and his band performed Oh! Whiskey and a really sweet version of the Cedar Room.
Piccadilly Records are now shipping the sold out blue vinyl record, I will put up some pics here once the record arrives at DMB towers!
thisissoundcheck.co.uk gives Odludek 5 out of five.
Developing on to a solo career from fonting one of the UK’s most successful yet (unfathomably) still “underground” bands is never an easy feat, especially when your vocals are virtually synonymous with that band’s output. Yet Doves front man Jimi Goodwin gives this a damn good go. From the startling opening to ‘Terracotta Warrior’, he gives the impression that, with Odludek, he wants to carve a path all of his own.
Jimi played his first show of the year last night in York at the Duchess. Early reaction indicates the show went well, and that the crowd seemed to have a blast. Jimigoodwin.com has the setlist for those of you wondering what he played.
A ton of photos are already up on twitter, this set on flickr by Simon Godley is especially good.
I’m not being evasive, that’s the truth. We’ve been in a band together since we were 15 or 16 and we needed a break,” he said. “23 years or so is a long time, so we just need time to recharge and get inspired again. We didn’t announce a split because we haven’t split up. Why say it if we don’t mean it? I understand saying it in haste, but just say you’re having a break if you’re having a break. We’re living life and getting some more experience before writing some new songs.
That’s Jimi’s reaction to being asked by the NME about the future of Doves. Jimi speaks to the NME at length in the latest edition about the lp and all that good stuff. I cant post it on here, though you may find the scan at Doves forum if you want to read the whole thing.
Its all been happening of late, lots of Jimi Goodwin gig announcements and the likes. Apologies for not keeping on top of that around here, an unexpected project kept me busy for the last couple weeks.
With the closure of Doves official website, I have seen an increase in traffic so thanks for stopping by! I’ll be keeping on top of things from now on in. Obviously there probably wont be much in the way of Doves news, but if there is anything you can expect to read about it here. Doves forum is still alive and well, hosted by this very site.
Late last week Jimi’s own site jimigoodwin.com launched, so keep that site bookmarked for the very latest in what promises to be a busy year for Jimi. It all starts next week for Jimi with his first show in York. Looking forward to blogging the year ahead, should be fun!
