Sub Sub Gems

There’s been quite the response to Andy’s recent Fiver on the Door interview, which focused mainly on Sub Sub. Plenty has been written about the two Sub Sub albums. Here’s a few things you may have missed, starting with the EPIC Space Face vs Double J’s Bless the Funk mash up which you’ll need to view on youtube..

Andy was recently interviewed for the  Soho Radio show Fiver on the Door. Listen to Andy discussing his early memories of the club culture in Manchester and the impact it had on him and Sub Sub.

Its a cracking interview, a great insight into how it all started for Andy and Sub Sub. There is some Doves discussion towards the end, including a nice update on how the new Doves album is coming along!

HVN543 – Heavenly 30 Weekender

Doves are thrilled to announce that they will play the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge on April 17th next year as part of Heavenly Recordings 30th anniversary celebrations.

“We don’t miss Heavenly anniversaries,” says Jimi. “It will be ace to play and celebrate 30 years of their fantastic label, and where better than the Trades Club?”

Tickets for this gig are of course sold out.

The excitement doesn’t end there. The weekend also see’s the return of Cherry Ghost (also sold out) on Saturday April 18th. As well as gigs from the likes of Confidence Man, Baxter Dury & Katy J Pearson among others. For all the info visit the Heavenly Recordings website.

Dennis & Lois

The above video is taken from the Dennis & Louis documentary, as aired on You tube by NME. It features Jimi talking about how when he was just 6 years old, Dennis & Lois took him back stage to meet Joey Ramone.

A cool story from an even more cool documentary! It makes its London premier this Sunday, only a few tickets remain which you can get here.

FAC51 – THE HACIENDA

Saturday see’s the “return” of Sub Sub at the Mayfield Depot in Manchester. Final tickets available at Ticketmaster.

Togetherness

Jimi posted this piece onto his soundcloud. The track is not new, and was first heard by fans in 2005 when Doves.net played demo tracks from Some Cities.

Q Nomination

Doves have been shortlisted for the 2019 Best Live Performance Award by Q Magazine for the Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Voting is opening through October 7th via this link.

Here’s a wee catch up on Doves set at Gunnersville via the festival website. It was a great festival, well organised. I certainly had a blast! Doves were on top form, here’s a cracking video from the evening (not mine)..

That’s it!

Doves wrapped up their live return last night at Gunnersbury Park, London. The setlist was the same as Bingley the weekend before. Despite the short set time, band managed to squeeze in all the tracks you’d want to hear.

The band seemed well into it, as were the crowd. The band have gone on record to say the next live gig will be in support of a new album. Exciting times ahead..
