Under the Radar Interview

US based Under the Radar Magazine recently caught up with Jez, some interesting questions…

Hays Davis: You three knew each other back when you were playing with other bands in high school. What kind of music were you playing at that time?

Jez Williams: I suppose we just learned our instruments, really. I was in a band with Andy. Jimi was in his own band, so we were really in separate bands. I suppose Jimi was doing sort of mod covers, like The Kinks, and Quadrophenia, The Who. We were sort of doing our own stuff but the occasional cover crept in there, like Blondie, “Hanging on the Telephone.” You remember that one? And Bruce Springsteen, “Born to Run.” [Laughs] We were, like, 14, 15 at this stage, just messing around, just finding our feet, really. It was really cool: You’re in a band, you’re at school. It’s pretty good, man. Good times.

News Of The World

Its old news really, but kinda cool all the same. Doves had a nice big feature in the News Of The World just before the tour started.

If you didn’t get to read the article, click here for hi-res scans. Cheers to my mum for spotting this!!

Tour stuff to come on Wednesday, will be updating the live archive with setlists/photos from all the shows. I have sets for all shows except Folkestone, was you there? Let me know how it went/setlist if you can.

Bradford Setlist

As always, a big thanks to NLF for the setlist. So there you have it, a quite memorable tour has come to an end. I just got back to the States today, from what was a fantastic few weeks back home on blightly. Thanks to you all who sent in reviews/pictures/comments… expect to see all that up over the next week or so.

London Troxy

On election night, Doves played out to a packed sold out London Troxy. The crowd took a while to get going for this one, but they got going just in time for a cracking encore finished off with a rousing Spaceface complete with backdrop video.

Daily Record Article

Apologies for the lack of updates, I’m currently enjoying some family time here in beautiful Northumberland. Tomorrow its a visit to Holy Island. I was very lucky to spend the first 25 years of my life here.

Jimi recently spoke to the Daily Record and spoke about the future, its an excellent read. To read the article click here.

The NME reviewed last night’s gig at Blackburn. For the full review, click here.

Full service will resume next week with lots of reaction from the tour. If you have pictures/reviews whatever from the tour please send them in, I will put them up next week.

Next stop London on Thursday, see you there.

Blackburn gig

Forth gig of the best of tour tonight, fantastic gig, Jimi seemed to be enjoying himself. For me personally it was a very emotional gig. Setlist can be found in the comment. I was not able to get a setlist myself as I had to leave just before the last song. I am not sure about the order of a few songs but those were the songs which have been played.

02 Academy Glasgow

Once again Glasgow did not disappoint. Of the four shows I caught on the tour, this was by far the best of the lot. Up their with one of the best Doves shows I’ve seen. Both band and crowd were brilliant. An unscheduled performance of Spaceface topped the night off. Cherry Ghost earlier opened playing all new songs to an appreciative audience.
