The Bird Effect on 6 Music

This evening Jimi filled in for Guy Garvey on 6 Music’s Finest hour. Of course the show was filled with some cracking music! Def checking out Dungen who I hadn’t heard of before to be honest.

The show’s highlight was Jimi giving his latest ‘piece’ The Bird Effect its radio debut, written for the documentary of the same name by Ceri Levy, who joined Jimi in the studio for some chat.

Listen to the full show here. If you don’t have the time or just want to hear the Bird Effect then jump to minute 1 hour 21.

Jimi on 6 Music

Jimi is sitting in for Guy Garvey on BBC 6 Music Sunday night. Show starts at 1opm, should be worth a listen!

edit: On the page linked above is the show’s playlist. Def tune in if you want to hear new music from Jimi!

How about something from the fantastic new My Morning Jacket album? They don’t need any promo, but what a cracking tune..

The Bird Effect Emsemble

INTRODUCING JIMI GOODWIN & THE BIRD EFFECT ENSEMBLE.

As the lights went down and the first Ghosts images flickered up on screen,Jimi Goodwin’s haunting soundtrack came to life, conducted by Joe Duddell, performed by Jimi and a fantastic group of musicians, all organized by Ali Hudson, creating the perfect accompaniment to Ceri Levy’s film images.A truly spine-tingling Ghosts moment –and a wonderful way to end the show.

Taken from the Ghosts of Gone Birds facebook page, for more pictures and info on the project join the group.

Thank you to those who have donated recently. The downloads will always be available from echoesinthealleyway.com. Donations are being accepted until the end of the year at our Teenage Cancer Trust page.

There are tentative plans to maybe do another project next year. It would be different, though it will again be for the Teenage Cancer Trust. More on that in 2012!

Glad to see the new Doves forum is going down well, probably hasn’t been as busy in years.

Anyone heading out to the Ghosts of Gone Birds exhibition in Liverpool on Friday? If you are going and would like to send in some photos or a write-up, please get in touch!

From the archive, been asked if Doves have done much acoustic. They have, usually radio sessions. The last gig in Glasgow they did last year was acoustic, sadly no audio has surfaced of that yet! You can listen to their two performances at Seattle’s KEXP..

2002 & 2005

There is also a ton of stuff up the Dutch Radio station 3voor12 here.

Finally,   I recently got to see Godspeed You! Black Emperor live. Supporting them was a Canadian guy called Eric Chenaux. With his latest album, all the song titles come from the names of real English ales! He was fantastic, check out his tunes at myspace.

Doves Forum

With the impending closure of the official doves forum at doves.net, we have set up a new forum. Doves have given it their blessing, so the new official doves forum can be found here.

Don’t be shy, stop by and say hello!

Ghosts of Gone Birds

We’re taking over the Liverpool School of Art & Design with established artists, like Ralph Steadman, Jamie Hewlett, Billy Childish, Charming Baker, Kai & Sunny, Olly & Suzi and Marcus Coates all creating their own particularly unique artistic memorials to the birds we have lost over the last two centuries. As well as paintings, sculptures and installations, there will be talks, poetry and live performances. The show will raise money and awareness for BirdLife International’s Preventing Extinctions Programme (http://www.birdlife.org/extinction/)

You can get project updates by following the Ghosts of Gone Birds facebook page and twitter feed.

Kingdom Of Rust Tabs

With thanks to Nick Yates (aka Substance) we have added Kingdom Of Rust to the Tablature section of the blog. Nick is currently working his way through Doves catalogue, we previously brought you the three previous studio albums plus the Best Of. Up next will be Lost Sides then pretty much whatever is left to do.

The tabs are designed so that you can strum along to Doves tracks. The tabs may not reflect exactly how Doves play the songs as some of the recordings are detuned and they are designed so that you don’t have to be Jez or play a right-handed guitar upside down to enjoy them!

We invite you to any corrections where necessary.
