Thanks to those of you who sent in stuff for the Last Broadcast at Ten. You can view the page here. Where has the 10 years gone?!
Thanks for all the emails asking the status of the blog and Doves themselves. For the blog there is no concern I just update when there is something worth updating you know? I’m still doing my album a day challenge, that part of the blog gets updated daily. As For Doves, still working on solo projects last I heard. As soon as stuff happens the blog will kick back into action!
The forum is still alive and well, and is a good place to hear any rumours and what not.
Why not check out the debut album by Alabama Shakes, its brilliant!
10 years ago today!
The Last Broadcast celebrates 10 years today! The page I promised will be going up later this week, having just returned from a trip home I haven’t had much of a chance to finish the project. Thanks to all your submissions!

Not a great deal going on obviously. You may recall last year Jimi sat in for Guy Garvey on 6 music, he played a great mash up by Under Dubwood the words of Dylan Thomas, the voice of Richard Burton and the studio sounds of KingTubby. The mash up got released this week on Rivertones the label by the folks behind Caught By the River, its a mash up that Jimi raved about at the time, and is well worth checking it out.
Its the label’s debut 7″, the flipside River Theme is a Time and Space Machine reconstruction that brings wigged out garage rock to the bankside.
Listen to the tracks on Soundcloud here, if you like why not grab it from the Caught By the River shop.

Other Voices Video
Didsbury Girl – Jimi Goodwin & Cherry Ghost
The video above was taken at Jimi’s appearance at last year’s other Voices Festival in Dingle Ireland. You can watch the entire episode of Other Voices using the RTE player here. The video will be available until April 4th. Fast forward 19 mins to hear Jimi perform his new track Panic Tree. Straight after is an interview with Jimi & Simon Aldred of Cherry Ghost. Jimi then performs with Cherry Ghost on Simon Aldred’s pre Cherry Ghost track The Fragile Reign. Surely a track that needs to see light of day on a record sometime soon? Later on Cherry Ghost perform a lovely acoustic version of their brilliant single Mathematics.
ps – The Mule Boom version of Fragile Reign can be purchased at amazon uk here.
The Last Broadcast 10th Anniversary

Ok here we go, the 10th Anniversary of the The Last Broadcast is coming up. I hadn’t really planned doing too much, but seeing as there isn’t much going on I thought why not. It could be a ton of fun.
So if you have any memories, photos, video, ticket stubs, posters, clippings anything to do with the Last Broadcast that you would be happy to share with the masses then I would love to hear from you. Email me at nicky@dovesmusicblog.com
I have set up a page here. The plan is if we get enough submissions to fill the page up with all of the above and anything else that you can think of! The page will go live proper on April 29th, so before then if possible please.
PS: Your submission does not have to be content from 2002, just as long as its Last Broadcast related really.
Interview with Sub Doves
Sub Doves performing Words
In January we brought you news of Doves first tribute band Sub Doves. In the video above you can get a preview of the band performing Words. This was taken during their first rehearsal session with Craig their keys player.
Sub Doves kindly answered some questions I recently put them. In the Q&A they reveal why they started up Sub Doves and they share details about their first Manchester gig which is set for July.

The Other Places Between Guitar Tabs

With thanks to Nick Yates (aka Substance) we have added The Other Places Between 1999-2009 to the tablature section of the blog. These are Doves lesser known tracks such as Karen, Ship Of Fools and 45 among others. This happens to be the final set of tabs from Nick, who has done no less than 72 Doves tabs since he started doing these tabs for the site in late 2010. I want to thank Nick for doing this for the site, its a huge privilege to have these on the site and looking at the site traffic stats its obvious you the readers have enjoyed having them!
The tabs are designed so that you can strum along to Doves tracks. The tabs may not reflect exactly how Doves play the songs as some of the recordings are detuned and they are designed so that you don’t have to be Jez or play a right-handed guitar upside down to enjoy them!
We invite you to submit any corrections where necessary.
Introducing Sub Doves
Sub Doves are as far as I’m aware the first ever Doves Tribute band! They are based in the North West of England where they hope to play their first gig very soon. Their website is now live complete with band pictures (without the keyboardist of course!) but I’m told he will be in future photo shoots. They will soon have a live performance video up, so keep your eye open for that! From their biography:
Why have we set up a Doves Tribute Band?
Doves are one of my favorite bands ever. They epitimise the talent of the North West music scene with their diverse and unique style of sheer brilliance. What better way to pay tribute to them, than by playing their superb music!
We are all missing them terribly and if we can play their songs, it will fill the void for us, until they bring out their next masterpiece album and start touring again…..guess who will be at the front of that next first gig?
I have collaborated with three excellent musicians to make sure we do Doves music justice. Two are from an excellent up and coming Band called Watershed and the keyboard player is one of the best keys players in the North West.
We will have more on Sub Doves over the coming weeks & months!
