As reported earlier by Nicky, Doves appeared live on U.K. television last night, on BBC2’s ‘Later Live With Jools Holland’ show.
The band performed ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ and ‘Winter Hill’. Click here to download videos of their appearance.
The videos are Xvid-encoded MPEG4 AVI files which should be standalone-compatible with most new DVD or AV players which are equipped to play DivX files.
An extended pre-recorded version of the show will be broadcast on BBC2 in the U.K. this coming Friday. It’s possible that at least one more performance or interview will be screened, in addition to their two other already screened appearances.
Kingdom Of Rust reached number 88 on the US billboard chart selling 8000 copies. A much better placing than Some Cities (111) but not as good as the Last Broadcast (83).
The album fared much better on the Australian ARIA chart, reaching number 34.
Pitchfork have posted a very favorable album review:
While the past decade has seen the indie kids go dance and the dance kids go indie, Doves’ 1998 formation was ironically predicated on an abrupt, 180-degree break from their former house-production guise as Sub Sub, absconding rhythmic propulsion for a space-rock sway. But more than any previous Doves album, Kingdom of Rust is built for motion and acceleration, leading its songs to unexpected and often exhilarating highs: Slow-percolating opener “Jetstream” counts down to lift-off with a hi-hat-triggered techno bed track that gradually intensifies into a tremorous, tribal clatter
Doves kick off the Kingdom Of Rust tour tonight in Cambridge at the Corn Exchange. I have gone through all the dates, so you can still see what is still available. As you can tell from the itinerary below, tickets are going quickly. If your local venue is listing a sell out right now, don’t be disheartened. Keep trying the usual ticket outlets. Manchester for example has been sold out since day one, but tickets have popped up on occasion at Ticketmaster. Try the venue also. Glasgow has been listed as sold out, but as of this morning, a few tickets still remain at Ticketmaster.

Once the tour finishes in Bristol. Its the Radio One Big Weekend, then its the small matter of the US tour that kicks off May 14th in San Diego. Tickets are still available for all shows. More nearer the time.
Thanks to Chris for flagging this up. Here is video of Doves performance on last night’s Later With Jools Holland. I have to say, this is one of the best tv performances I have seen from doves in a long while. Great to the them back, sounding better than ever.
Doves management have said Kingdom Of Rust missed out the number one spot by only four copies! So if you did not manage to buy a copy…
The Kingdom Of Rust single got to #2 on the billboard hot singles sales chart, beaten only by Beyonce.
Doves go back out on the road this week to support Kingdom of Rust. Tour starts in Cambridge on Wednesday at the Corn Exchange. Tickets are still available to purchase at SeeTickets.
