Jez Interviewed For Colorado Springs Independent

Bill Forman of the Colorado Springs Independent recently interviewed Jez, discussing his thoughts on: Doves losing the UK #1 Album Chart position to Lady Gaga; Manchester City, and the band’s personal upheavals during the creation of Kingdom Of Rust.

“We did ‘Blue Moon,’ but it’s a really messed-up, drugged-out, psychedelic version,” says an obviously pleased Williams. “It’s a little bit left-field for the City, but they play it, so it’s all good.”

Breakfast at Sulimay’s

This is the best Kingdom Of Rust review, you are going to see this year. I love it, this is basically three grandparents Bill, Ann, and Joe (Is he even alive?!) reviewing Kingdom Of Rust. Doves are three minutes in:

Seattle Crocodile Review

The Sound on Sound give the low down on last night’s intmate show at the newly refurbished crocodile cafe (excellent venue btw!) and look forward to doves Sasquatch festival appearance:

A large part of the Doves dynamic relies the interplay of harmonies and backup singing, looped and heavily reverbed vocals bouncing off of each other and the walls in ways few bands even attempt. Last night the full package was notably missing as guitarist Jez Williams had lost his voice in the previous few days during the start of an American tour. Bassist and lead voice Jimi Goodwin soldiered on unphased for the most part though, getting the necessary backups from a positively excited crowd when needed.

Jimi’s Straight-Talking

Jimi has recently been interviewed by Vanvouver-centric lifestyle website, Straight.com, ahead of Doves’ Canadian shows.

Straight.com

‘Kingdom of Rust’, those opening images, like the cooling towers and stuff, it reminds me of an industry that’s gone, and nature’s reclaimed it,” he says of the album’s title track. “You know, when you get those sites or derelict yards and things, and nature’s taken over because it’s been abandoned. Nature will reclaim what is rightfully its.”

Jez Speaks To Tandem Magazine

Canada’s Tandem magazine has posted a short interview with Jez, talking about New Order, the four year hiatus and the Gallagher brothers…

Tandem Magazine

Williams notes that “in Doves, we are all brothers in a way, and two of us are biological brothers. It’s like a family unit, a three-headed monster, and it’s so intuitive it’s sometimes scary!” So no sibling fighting, as with those other Manchester rock star brothers, the Gallaghers of Oasis? “No, we’re more laidback,” laughs Jez Williams. “We did a lot of fighting at 15 and got it out of our system then.”

San Francisco Review

At last, we have a San Francisco review, an awesome one at that. With some of the best pictures I have seen on this tour. Thanks to Chov for bringing this one to our attention.

From Hippies Are Dead:

Obviously, however, enthusiasm can only take you so far, and at some point you need to match it with technical skill. Lucky for them, Doves has it in spades. It’s enough of a miracle that the band can reproduce their sound live, but that they can do it so dynamically and accurately, and then add a layer newness on top is simply stunning.

Note: Jez was ill this night, hence the lack Jez sung tracks! No backing vocals either, it sounds weird without them.
