Buzz

Was only a matter of time.. If you use gmail you can now follow the blog using Google buzz. You will get the regular feed from the blog as well as other bits & pieces not featured on the blog as with twitter. Our Twitter has almost 4000 followers, so we’ll see if google buzz works just as well.

I haven’t really plugged it much, but the blog does have a facebook page, which I have linked below. Look forward to hearing from you!

Best Of Pre-Order

Amazon.com among others are taking pre-orders for the best of stating an April 6th release in the USA. Assuming this is correct, that should mean an April 5th release in the UK.

Nothing’s official though, so I would hold back until more info is made available. Wouldn’t be the first the dates have been changed.

Heavenly Records News

Some good news regarding Heavenly from Billboard business:

U.K. indie Heavenly Recordings has signed a long-term licensing agreement with Cooperative Music, the international independent label group that operates under Universal Music Group ownership.

Heavenly’s previous deal with EMI expired in 2008, although Doves’ U.K. No. 2 album “Kingdom of Rust” was released by Heavenly via EMI in 2009. Cooperative began working with Heavenly last year and helped the London-based indie sign the Soft Pack and Fionn Regan.

“Recently, with Fleet Foxes and Phoenix they [Cooperative] have proved their ability in getting really impressive sales from supposedly underground acts and in doing so gave me the confidence to turn our relationship in to something more long term,” said Heavenly Recordings founder and owner Jeff Barrett in a statement.

What this means for doves exactly I’m not sure. Regardless though, nice to see a good label sticking around.

RockNess

doves have been confirmed to perform at this year’s RockNess.

RockNess director Jim King said: “We’re delighted with the RockNess line-up this year, the best we’ve had to date, and we’re particularly looking forward to having BBC Radio 1 on board as our official radio partner.

“We have some really great indie bands lined up with The Strokes, Doves and Ian Brown and there’s still more bands to add.

The festival takes place weekend of June 11-13th. Doves will perform on the Sunday night, as they are elsewhere on Friday/Saturday. Tickets are on sale now.

Cherry Ghost Covering Doves

Old school but very cool all the same. Whilst we wait for some new doves material, do check out new Cherry Ghost at their myspace page for new tunes. Beneath This Burning Shoreline is particularly good.

Walgreens Approve!

Who said doves haven’t quite made it in the US? It doesn’t get much better than walking into your local Walgreens (US version of Boots) and hearing Winter Hill being played over the store radio! It gets better.. Catch The Sun was playing in Sunset Foods Highland Park Illinois a few weeks back. It doesn’t get more exciting than that eh?

A band who’s music you probably wont hear at your local Walgreens is King Kong Ding Dong. Exactly! They are giving away their latest album at their website for free. Check out the first track Jample, stunning stuff. Though the vocals sound sorta familar.. The Cedar Room? Great album though.

Another band who like the Cedar Room is Exit Calm. So much so they use it as they walk on stage at their live shows. They have supported the likes of Soulsavers & The Charlatan’s recently. Debut album is out in April. Sign up to their website to get a free mp3.

A Sunny Day!

Last night whilst scanning the blog for broken links etc I noticed on the Live Traffic Feed that’s on the bottom right hand corner, somebody in Iraq was visiting the blog! That’s pretty damn cool! Whoever you are.. whether your a resident, member of the military whatever – nice seeing you!

Don’t have a great deal to share right now, though the word is news from doves camp is imminent!

Currently enjoying the latest compilation from Caught By The River.. this time its Birdsongs which features an exclusive track from the British Sea Power. If you didn’t get the compilation this time. Make you sure you sign up to the blog for the next one.

I’m also enjoying the music of A Sunny Day In Glasgow, well worth checking out. They play across the US & Eurupe over the next few months.

Charity Auction

If you fancy owning the handwritten lyrics of Kingdom Of Rust as pictured above, then head over to the Cancer Research ebay auction to put your bid in. So far its at £62 with five days left in the auction. Good luck!

Jetstream Acoustic Download

Its a year to the day tomorrow that doves posted up the free preview from Kingdom Of Rust, with the opening track Jetstream. A year on, another free track up for download and again its Jetstream, this time the acoustic version. Head over to the heavenly recordings website to get the free download. You need to sign up, the download is in the members area. It sounds great!

Not a whole lot going on..

As you probably guessed, not a great deal going on in doves world. I have been enjoying the Delphic record. Great news for those of us at the wrong side of the pond, Delphic have been anounced to play Coachella so here’s hoping for a few more shows stateside.

Doves are mentioned in today’s Guardian write up on Delphic and other new Manchester based bands. Hope to catch Delphic (doves would be nice too….) at this year’s Lollapalooza festival here in Chicago.

Cherry Ghost have also put up some new tunes in unmixed form up on the myspace page. Black Fang sounded great live last year, could be a single I reckon?

I see Hooky is opening up a new club in Manchester. FAC251 opens up next month. I wonder what the chances of a doves gig there? Spaceface opener! Would make allot of sense with the history and all. But just pure speculation on my part!!
