Victorious Festival

No setlist for this one yet, band started with Snowden, then Rise. Also played were Black & White Town, Kingdom of Rust, Pounding, The Cedar Room & The Fear. A wee media review is up at the Daily Echo.

Friday  also saw Manchester-born band Doves on the main stage and what could be the start of the last heatwave of summer.

Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin was momentarily overwhelmed with their reception at Victorious. “My cup overflows with love for you,” he joked after taking a second look at the huge Southsea Common crowd.

But perhaps he should not have been surprised. This band, with twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams on guitar and drums respectively, were huge in the first decade of this century, clocking up two number one albums, The Last Broadcast and Lost Souls, and supporting Oasis at Wembley.

Even now, their hit singles Black and White Town, Pounding and Here Comes The Fear are still on regular rotation on Radio X.

Hull Setlist

Doves played Zebedee’s Yard in the heart of Hull city centre this evening. Before Space face, Jimi gave a shout out to the Doves forum, thanks to his ‘chance’ meeting with some of the forum regulars at a local gin bar earlier in the day.

Join the shenanigans on the current Doves forum which is now connected to Doves official facebook page here. The spirit of the old Doves web forum which has been around since early 2000 lives on! Feel free to post yer snaps from the gig or any Doves gig!

To Hull and back

Next up for Doves is Victorious festival in Portsmouth tomorrow (Friday night) for a short 45 minute set from 6:30pm, on just before The Specials. Give us a shout if your going via email, the forum or tweet @dovesmusicblog

Hull Line-up

Joining Doves & Idlewild in Hull next Thursday are The Hubbards. A Hull based band who are well worth a listen. Check them out here.

Final tickets for the show are on sale here.

In other news, it was quietly announced at first but Sub Sub are making a return! Albeit a DJ set at the Warehouse Project, which is now housed at the Mayfield Depot, which across from Piccadilly station in Manchester of course.

A good looking line-up, which is headlined by the ever popular Hacienda Classical. I believe this has featured a certain Sub Sub track in the past!

Tickets are on sale here.

White Flowers

Doves announced on Friday that White Flowers would be joining them at Gunnersville, London on September 6th.

Tickets for the gig are on sale now.

Here’s the press blurb on White Flowers, with an obvious interest for fans of Doves…

White Flowers are a duo from Preston blending drum machine, guitar, synth and haunting vocals to create their own noir world. The duo’s debut album has been produced by Doves’ Jez Williams and is due for release in early 2020.

White Flowers released their ‘Glimmer’ EP  last October, which was celebrated by The Line Of Best Fit as “arguably one of this year’s strongest debuts”.

The band’s first single from their debut album, ‘Porta’, is due to be released this September.
