Edinburgh Picture House

Doves played the Edinburgh Picture House for the first time tonight. Sounds like the gig went well. Though Jimi, announced Andy wasn’t feeling too good tonight, so the set was slightly shorter than usual. Here It Comes was not played, The Last Broadcast was moved to the main set, leaving just a two song encore Northenden/The Fear. Kudos to Andy for soldiering on. Get well soon!

Thanks to McGrivvy at doves board for the set info.

Here It Comes Cover

Check out this interesting cover of Here It Comes. Not bad. I do like the “jimi” bit.

Check out these awesome pictures of the gig, taken by Alice. By all accounts the show was the best of the year so far. The Barras never disappoint.

Doves are in Edinburgh tonight to play the Picture House for the first time.

Seattle Crocodile show added

Not confirmed by doves yet. But it does appear doves are playing a club show in Seattle. Doves are listed to play the Crocodile club Sasquatch pre party-show on May 20th. Tickets on sale at Ticketmaster Friday 10am.

Seattle Crocodile event listing

If this is correct. Doves will be having a busy time of it. With six shows over six days.

Dublin Live Review

Irish music site State have put up a good review of the Dublin Olympia show. Check it out, for the awesome pictures alone.

State Dublin Review

The Kentucky Student Newspaper have got a very cool doves article. Comparing Jez, to none other than guitar god David Gilmour.

The overall sound is as epic and as large as previous Dove’s albums. The string slinging is on a level as classic as Carl Perkins and David Gilmore.

After a day off, Doves are playing the Glasgow Barrowland tonight. Always a wonderful venue to see doves live. I can’t think of many better cities to catch doves live.

Archive: 4music Favourites: Doves

Finally, here’s the long-awaited video of the show ‘4music Favourites: Doves’, which aired on Channel 4 in the U.K., nearly a week ago. The show contains brief interviews with the band and live performances of four songs.

The video is an Xvid-encoded MPEG4 AVI file which should be standalone-compatible with most new DVD or AV players which are equipped to play DivX files.

Birmingham Review & Popmatters Interview

Thanks to LDC at doves board for pointing out this Birmingham review.

Tracks from the new album also got a good reaction probably because songs like Winter Hill, The Outsider and title track Kingdon of Rust do sound unmistakably Doves. Which is no bad thing.

Popmatters spoke to Jimi. Interesting article, if at times inaccurate.

Live Session MP3s

Download

Also from Jimi’s beard, here are mp3s from the Jools holland performance. Included are Kingdom Of Rust, Winter Hill & 10.03. These are excellent quality mp3s from one of the best live sessions doves have ever performed.

Kingdom Of Rust/Winter Hill

Cheers Jimi’s Beard!

Much more to come over the coming days.

UK Chart News

Kingdom Of Rust dropped only one place on the UK album chart to number three. A very respectable position, considering Some Cities dropped out of the charts like a stone right after reaching number one.

Some goodies to come tomorrow, including mp3s of the Jools Holland performance. Until then..
