Stoke Wheatsheaf

Doves first ever live performance.

From the Manchester District Music Archive, Jez recalls the gig:

“The only people who showed up to this were the other bands. I spent £5 on the fruit machine without winning a penny, then the drummer from one of the other bands won £20 on the same machine straight after! I had to order drinks from the stage.
Some of these tunes made it onto the album, some didn’t!! Coke track became a B-side on Sea Song, Blues Tune didn’t make it onto anything, Come Back Home was crap.”

Jez was performing double duties on both guitar & keyboard. Martin Rebelski would join the band live later in the year.

Hi I use to work at the Wheatsheaf and was the in house Light Person and can tell you abit about size of Venue .
At a push you would get 200 people in there and this was Pub in the centre of stoke .

The Stage was vary low about 2 to 3 Feet and I had About 14 Par Cans to work with and some Pinspots .I can just about recall this gig whish I had take some Phots off the gig .
